I designed the retrospective catalogue for Beyond the Figure, a fifty-year survey of Andrew Stevovich’s career published by Skira in partnership with Adelson Galleries. The volume presents 120 paintings and explores recurring themes, formal language, and the artist’s deep engagement with European figurative traditions.

The catalogue is organized into multiple thematic sections, each opening with an essay followed by a dedicated sequence of plates. Because the essays engage in close dialogue with historical artworks, I developed highly designed layouts that vary composition from page to page, allowing these visual comparisons to unfold clearly and with intention. Each section opens with a color theme anchored by a primary image and a decorative zigzag motif adapted from the iconic “Zig Zag Club” wall that recurs throughout Stevovich’s paintings.

The plate sections follow a quieter fine-arts logic, pairing thoughtful spacing with clean typography to allow the subtle narratives of the work to speak for themselves. Publication Editor and Director Linda Locke was closely involved during the design phase, offering insights that helped refine and elevate the final publication.
