I designed the exhibition catalogue for Dark and Stormy Night: Gothic Influence in Contemporary Art, a large group exhibition curated by Bartholomew F. Bland at the Lehman College Art Gallery and timed for a Halloween-season release. As with other themed group exhibitions for the gallery, the catalogue was approached with a more expressive visual language than traditional fine-art publications.

The design drew on Gothic atmospherics, using deep tones, a subtle surreal glow, and restrained decorative dark motifs to heighten the exhibition’s theme without overshadowing the artworks. These elements were applied selectively, allowing the visual character of the catalogue to remain dramatic while still grounded in clarity and restraint.

Because group exhibitions demand versatility, I developed a stable and flexible layout system capable of accommodating a wide range of media, artist essays, and image formats. Expressive hero spreads adapted from source material provided moments of emphasis within the book, while the overall structure maintained consistent pacing and sophistication throughout. Editor Linda Locke was closely involved during the design phase, offering insights that helped refine and elevate the final publication.
